Pregnancy Update: Glucose Shcmlucose
I’m almost half way there.
Next week I hit the 20 week mark and everything has been moving along wonderfully until the doctor suggested I take an early glucose test.
When you’ve had 2 big babies, like I have, the doctors get a little nervous and insist on making sure you don’t have gestational diabetes. So on Wednesday morning I drank my Fruit Punch flavored sugar high and went in for the 1 hour glucose tolerance test.
I felt nauseous all day and had a nice headache for most of the day as my body tried to come down from the sugar high. It was no fun and I don’t want to do it again… except for the fact that I got a call this morning from the lab tech (never a good sign) informing me that my levels were a little high and they want me to do the 3 hour glucose test. BLECH!
So Monday morning I go in for my 3 hour glucose test. I really hope I pass this time. After doing a little reading I learned that a lot of women who fail the 1 hour test will pass the 3 hour test so we’ll see.
I don’t want a huge baby again but I also don’t want to go on a gestational diabetes diet for the duration of this pregnancy, but if I must I will.
