Let’s talk about age, hormones and weight….
Let’s talk about age, hormones and weight….all the things women love to talk about.
After Simon was born I worked really hard to eat healthy and exercise and I lost all of the baby weight plus more. I was down to my pre-wedding size. When I became pregnant with Abel I gained it all back. I was pretty frustrated to say the least. I wasn’t eating super healthy and I certainly wasn’t exercising, in fact due to some hip and pelvic pain(Symphysis pubis dysfunction) I was more sedentary than ever.
After Abel was born I didn’t lose much weight either which was really frustrating. So, I slowly started making dietary changes and became much more active and I slowly started to lose some of the baby weight. Then I decided to try birth control for the first time ever. I got an IUD. This made my body super confused, it thinks I’m pregnant and since I got the IUD I’ve gain back 10+ pounds despite healthy eating, exercising and breastfeeding.
I’m currently the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life outside of pregnancy and it’s frustrating. I’m not on a diet but I do eat healthfully… lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, no soda, small amounts of carbs, limited fried food, healthy snacks and the occasional bit of chocolate. I also go for long fast-paced walks at least 4 times a week. (I really wish I could afford a gym membership, I miss it soooo much) I know that with age my metabolism is slowing and it’s starting to show. But I also realize my hormones are out of whack and I really don’t like it. Therefore, soon I we will be changing our family planning tactics. Without going into too much detail I hope to have this IUD removed before the end of the year.
Hopefully, this along with an increase in daily activity and continuing to eat healthy foods I will begin to lose some of this weight.
If you’ve had an IUD did you notice weight gain?
How has age, pregnancy, children… affected your weight?
