Pro Planning Tip: We recommend using Jessica Lieb with ET Family Travel to book your Disney vacation!
Whether this is your very first trip or your tenth, these insider Disney money-saving tips will help stretch your budget so you can make the most of your vacation without sacrificing a single ounce of magic.

1. Skip the Rental Car
One of the easiest ways to save majorly at Disney is to skip renting a car. As a travel agent, I always help my clients arrange transfers to and from the airport so transportation is smooth and stress-free.
Once you arrive on Disney property, there’s truly no need for a car. Disney transportation including buses, the Skyliner, boats, and the monorail will take you anywhere you need to go. It’s quick, convenient, and completely free for Disney Resort guests.
2. Bring Your Own Snacks and Drinks
Here’s a budget hack that surprises many first-timers: Disney allows outside food and drinks into the parks!
You can pack snacks, sandwiches, and even full lunches as long as there’s no glass or alcohol. This is a huge money-saver, especially for families. I always bring plenty of water bottles, fruit, and easy-to-eat snacks for my crew.
When you do decide to purchase food in the parks, do a little research ahead of time to find the best spots that fit your budget. And don’t overlook Disney kids’ meals, they’re perfectly portioned and often a better deal.
3. Pack Smart: Clothing & Gear
Comfort is key at Disney! Pack lightweight, breathable clothes and comfortable shoes you’ll be walking a lot.
To save money, buy Disney-themed shirts, princess dresses, and Minnie ears before your trip. You can find adorable options on Amazon for a fraction of what you’ll pay in the parks.
4. Pre-Purchase Souvenirs
Speaking of shopping, stock up on fun Disney souvenirs before your trip! Bubble wands, glow sticks, and light-up toys are all available online for much less than in the parks, but they bring the same level of excitement for your kids.
I still recommend splurging on one special souvenir in the parks, but make it something with lasting value maybe a collectible, a piece of artwork, or something you’ll actually use after your trip.

5. Pack Essentials from Home
Items like sunscreen, ponchos, and gum are way cheaper outside the parks. (Fun fact: Disney doesn’t sell gum anywhere on property!) Toss these items in your park bag before you arrive and thank yourself later.
And here’s a little-known tip: Don’t waste money on first-aid supplies. Disney’s first-aid centers provide free bandages, blister care, and basic medical treatment, just another reason I love how they care for guests.
6. Schedule a Resort Day
You’re paying for those resort amenities, so make sure to enjoy them! Build in at least one free day to relax by the pool, explore the resort, or take advantage of on-site activities.
We love to spend a full day at our resort swimming, playing games, and just soaking in the Disney atmosphere. Plus, every Disney resort pool is heated year-round, so it’s always a good day for a swim!
7. Keep Your Phone Charged (Without Overspending)
You’ll use your phone a ton during your Disney trip — from mobile ordering to snapping photos to navigating Genie+. Having a charged phone is essential, but fuel rods in the park can add up fast.
Instead, bring your own portable charger and cord. It’s one of the simplest Disney budget hacks that will save both time and money. (You can check out my full list of tech must-haves for Disney [here].)
