Learning How to be a Mom to Boys

Spring is here and we are spending A LOT of time outdoors. Our backyard is like an extension of our house, be it a small extension, and the kids spend a ton of time out there playing.

Life with 4 wild boys (well 3 wild boys and a cute baby) is non-stop. There are days that I would love to lay on the couch and have a movie marathon but we are not that family. At least not right now. And to be honest I hope we never become that family.

With the warmer weather the boys are playing outside more and as a direct result they are generally more well behaved. These boys need to run and jump and climb. They get dirty. They play rough. And I’m totally OK (to an extent) with all of it.

Noah forgets he’s 3 years old and climbs on top of the play set.

I’m learning how to be a mom to these boys. They need the space and opportunity to explore, make messes and make mistakes. Sometimes I see them make decisions that might end badly (like climbing on top of the swing set) but I let it go and it usually turns out OK. I watch them quarrel and resolve their problems (most of the time without my intervention). And I especially like to watch them explore the world around them through their play.

I never thought I’d have all boys but I love my family and I really love spending time with them.
