Frosty the Snowman, A New Musical – Raleigh, NC
Friday night we took the boys to the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts to see a special production of Frosty the Snowman, A New Musical. Storybook Theater offers one-hour performances that are perfect for young audiences and helps introduce children to theater with live performances of popular children’s tales like Frosty.
We got to attend a special pre-show dinner and even got to meet Santa Claus. The boys thought this was particularly exciting, especially Noah who kept asking Santa to hold him.
The show was a lot of fun and kept the attention of both Jude and Noah. (Simon is only 1 so he got a little fussy during the second half). Frosty the Snowman, A New Musical tells the story of a young orphan boy that asks Santa for a family so Santa sends Frosty to help the boy, and several others, to find the true heart of Christmas. I really enjoyed that the cast was largely composed of children, and not just any children, children that did a wonderful job acting and singing. Sometimes children on stage can be awkward and unprepared but this cast was very professional and high engaging. Equally the supporting adult actors also did a fine job, but that is to be expect from adults!
I wasn’t sure how they were going to portray Frosty in a live musical since he is a snowman. And to be honest I was a little thrown off by the man in the white suit and full face paint but by the end of the show it was pretty natural to think that a snowman come to live may look like a regular man.
We laughed and cheered throughout the performance and the boys haven’t stopped singing about Frosty the Snowman. If you are looking for something fun to do with your family this holiday season check out the Storybook Theater’s Frosty the Snowman performance.
