We’re in a Band with Singing and Stuff!

So we’re in a band. With our friends Seth and Thurston. The name of the band is The Victoria Line, after our trip to England. It’s been pretty slow going, and we haven’t had a lot of time to work on music with all the recent life-changing events and such, but we did find time to record a track for a Starflyer 59 tribute album, which you can download for free on the internet. Chances are, if you’re reading this blog, you’re on the internet right now already, so why don’t you go ahead and download it?

“But Joe, who is Starflyer 59?, ” you say. Well, they’re really good. Really really good. Starflyer 59 has been one of my very favorite bands for the last 12 or so years, and they were one of the first really good Christian non-hairmetal rock bands, and they inspired (a small segment of) an entire generation of musicians, which is how the whole “tribute album” thing came about. And most of the songs on there are pretty good, as it turns out.

“So what’s with the song?” you might ask. Well, the song we did is called “Just Try”, and is a favorite from my college radio days. As far as I can tell, it’s about putting effort into a relationship. Also, I think it’s a pretty song, and I thought that there was a lot of room in the original version for us to mess around with the arrangement and stuff, which is the most fun part of doing a cover song for me. Also, in case you’re wondering, on this song I’m singing and playing the guitar, Jessica is playing the Fender Rhodes (a snazzy electric piano from the 1970’s), Thurston is playing the guitar and a little bit of the organ, and Seth is playing drums. Also, Jessica and Seth sing on the chorus.
