IKEA KALLAX Hack: Record Player Stand/Storage

Finding stylish and practical record storage can be difficult, especially if you are on a budget. We needed storage for our Audio-Technica turntable, Klipsch R-15PM Powered Monitor speakers, and extensive record collection. The IKEA Kallax was great for storing records but wasn’t aesthetically ideal for our space.

We wanted something vintage, but it was challenging to find a piece we liked that was in good condition and didn’t cost a fortune.

How to Creating Record Storage from IKEA Kallax
- Purchase the Kallax Shelf Unit (We opted for the white finish)
- Purchase Heavy Duty Leg Plates and Taper Round Legs
- Select a stain for the legs. (We used Varathane Wood Stain in English Chestnut and applied multiple coats to achieve our desired look.)
- Attach the Legs to the bottom of the unit using these heavy-duty top leg plate.

Simply attaching legs to the shelf makes it look like a piece that belongs in the space rather than a cheap IKEA shelf.
This project was quick, easy, and very affordable.
Adding new legs to furniture can revitalize a space for a fraction of the cost.
