Pregnancy Update: 40 weeks
Yesterday was my Due Date. It came and went without a baby being born.
I also had my 40 week check-up with the OB yesterday. The doctor checked me and said I was 3 cm dilated and 50% effaced. She also stripped my membranes. I had some pretty noticeable and uncomfortable contractions yesterday but nothing that developed into labor.
Almost every afternoon this week I’ve had several hours with consistent and strong-ish contractions. It makes taking care of 2 busy little boys rather challenging but thankfully Joe has been able to work from home a little and help out.
So far the doctors haven’t given me a date for being induced. I have an appointment at 41 weeks for a non-stress test to make sure baby is still doing OK in there. Hopefully we won’t have to go to that appointment but if we do I’m assuming they will start talking about inducing me then. They don’t want me to go past 42 weeks, you know, since I grow giant babies..
So hopefully this little guy will come out in the next few days.
THE NAME HAS BEEN CHOSEN
Good news is that we finally decided on a name for this guy. We’ve had a first name picked out but have been going back and forth about middle names but yesterday Jude helped us decide. I really like that we included him in the process, I think that will be really special when they get older.
A few people know the name but we’re kind of hoping to wait until he arrives to make the big announcement. However, if you ask Jude he will certainly tell you the baby’s name.
I VOTED
I decided that if I hadn’t had the baby by my due date I would go vote in early voting. So I made my way to the polls, Joe watched the boys while I cast my ballot. The poll workers asked when I was due, when I said “today” everyone laughed nervously and made comments about me having the baby right there. Funny thing, I didn’t actually have the baby while I was voting!
Joe and I have both voted so now we don’t have to worry about making it to the polls on election day, with a newborn baby (fingers-crossed he’s born by then!)
