How Do You Celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Joe and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day like traditional American couples.
We’ve never gone OUT on Valentine’s Day.
For our first Valentine’s Day together I cooked Joe a meal, we had chocolate fondue and he made me mixed tape CDs. We didn’t have a lot of money so there were no flowers, no fancy dates and no expensive presents. It was really nice.

Ever since that first date we’ve tried to keep things simple.
We’ve cooked each other meals.
Written each other letters.
Made each other gifts. (one year he made me a bouquet of origami flowers)
And most importantly spent time together.

This year will be no different. We will be staying home, eating a meal together, snuggling on the couch and watching a movie. I can’t wait.

However, the other day I decided to buy Joe flowers. We don’t typically buy flowers because they are an additional cost and die but every once in awhile we splurge and it’s nice. I love the idea of breaking gender stereotypes. I like buying flowers for him or planning our dates. As much as I like to be pursued by my husband I equally like to pursue him.

I bought him an inexpensive bouquet from Trader Joe’s that contains spider mums which is one of the flowers we had in our wedding.
