9 Tips for Staying Cool at Disney World

·

Disney World is located in Orlando, Florida, which is hot and humid most of the year, particularly in the summer. In the winter, high temperatures average around the mid-70s Fahrenheit, with occasional cold snaps. However, high temperatures steadily reach the low to mid-90s during the summer.

Walt Disney World can be pretty hot, but you don’t have to suffer with the proper preparations. Visiting during the summer also offers the opportunity to experience special events and extended park hours, making it a unique and exciting time to visit. However, careful planning can make the persistent heat and humidity more bearable.

1. Stroller Fans

Keep your little ones cool with a stroller fan. Stroller fans are designed to easily attach to your stroller. Purchase a USB rechargeable battery-powered fan so you can recharge it every night. Check out our list of best stroller fans.

2. Arrive Early

The highest temperatures occur between noon and 6 p.m. You might only be able to avoid some outdoor activities during those hours, but you can organize your day to reduce situations such as prolonged waits in unshaded outdoor lines.

  1. Arrive early to avoid both lines and the heat.
  2. Do outdoor attractions early or near the park closing due to afternoon thunderstorms.
  3. Save indoor attractions for the afternoon to escape the heat and long lines.
  4. Have a long indoor lunch around 1 p.m. to avoid the lunch rush and the peak heat.
  5. Take a mid-day break. Head back to your hotel for a dip in the pool or an afternoon nap.

3. Hit the Pool

Beat the heat with a quick dip in the pool. Grab transportation back to your hotel and get in the pool! Enjoy a refreshing cocktail by the pool bar and avoid the hottest and most crowded part of the day. After a mid-day break, head back into the park feeling refreshed.

4. Cooling Towels

Cooling towels provide relief from excessive heat. To use them, soak the towel in ice-cold water, wring out the excess water, and then snap it a few times. Wrap the towel around your neck or wipe down your face and arms. The best part is they stay cool for hours.

5. Stay Hydrated

Remember to take breaks and stay hydrated when having a great time at Disney. Bring refillable water bottles or buy a case of water and have it delivered to your hotel room. Water at Disney can be expensive, so save your money for souvenirs. It adds up when you’re spending $4 per bottle. Every Disney hotel has a fridge to keep the water cold for the parks and when you return to your room.

6. Wear a Hat

Bring a hat that provides coverage for your face and ample ventilation. Choose a sun hat with UPF 50 sun protection, a sweat-wicking headband for keeping you cool and dry, and an adjustable toggle for comfort.

7. Wear Cool Clothing

When selecting your park outfits, always prioritize comfort over style. Due to the high humidity, it’s best to choose lightweight, quick-drying clothing. Fabrics like cotton or denim may not allow your skin to breathe as easily as moisture-wicking material does. Light colors are better than black or darker-colored clothing as they reflect the light.

8. Enjoy a Cool Treat

Enjoy a frozen Mickey-shaped treat to cool down in the afternoon. Grab a classic Dole Whip or Mickey ice cream bar, or indulge in one of Disney’s Instagram-worthy, creative ice cream desserts. The Florida heat is the perfect reason to get a frozen treat.

9. Find Air Conditioning

Maybe you don’t want to leave the parks, but don’t worry; Disney World has plenty of fun indoor activities with air conditioning.
