Carolina Theater – Durham, NC

About the Carolina Theater

Located in the heart of downtown Durham, NC, the Carolina Theater was built in 1926 and served as a movie theater that also presented stage shows and concerts. Originally named the Durham Auditorium, the auditorium welcomed famous stars of the 40s and 50s, such as Ronald Reagan and Katharine Hepburn. In the late 70s, the theater was set to be torn down, but the Carolina Cinema Corporation and many volunteers led the effort to save the theater. After extensive renovation, the theatre reopened in 1994 and continues to serve as a source of civic pride for the community.
