Cirque du Soleil Corteo Review

· ·

Cirque du Soleil Corteo is in Raleigh, NC until Sunday, February 10th and it’s a must see show. I had the privilege of attending the opening show last night and it was utter magic.

About Corteo

The clown Mauro has passed, but his spirit is still with us. Instead of mourning, the funeral cortege celebrates the here and hereafter with laughter and exuberance. Rich, extravagant memories frolic with the senses. The sound of laughter peals around the stage, visions of joyous tumblers and players fascinate the eyes. Regret and melancholy retreat in the face of a cavalcade of lively recollections of a life gloriously lived. A festive parade that entertains; the perfect accolade for an artist whose life was dedicated to revelry and making merry.

What I love about Corteo is that the characters talk. Most Cirque du Soleil shows don’t have any talking by the characters. Corteo is such a lovely and intimate story and the dialogue adds another connection between the audience and the characters. The whole performance draws in the audiences and makes you feel as though you are part of Mauro’s afterlife journey. There are tragically beautiful moments, awe inspiring acts and bits of humor sprinkled throughout the show. The performances weren’t all jaw-dropping huge acts, some were actually quite small but still just as impressive. Corteo is a sweet reflection on life and all that makes life so wonderful, the big and the small.
