Movie Review: The Pirate Fairy

·

Jude and I had a special mother/son date Saturday morning to see a special theater screening of The Pirate Fairy. He dressed up as a pirate and we set sail through the damp and dreary weather to see this new movie from DisneyToon Studios we had a blast. We both really enjoyed this movie. I wasn’t sure if Jude would like it because of all the fairies but he doesn’t discriminate against good movies. There was a nice balance between pretty fairies and swashbuckling fun that both girls and boys will enjoy in this movie.

If Jude likes a movie he will engage and become physically active. Let’s just say I’m glad no one was sitting in front of us. (He liked it A LOT!)

About The Pirate Fairy

From the world of Peter Pan comes The Pirate Fairy, a swashbuckling new adventure about Zarina (voice of Christina Hendricks), a smart and ambitious dust-keeper fairy who’s captivated by Blue Pixie Dust and its endless possibilities. When Zarina’s wild ideas get her into trouble, she flees Pixie Hollow and joins forces with the scheming pirates of Skull Rock, who make her captain of their ship. Tinker Bell (voice of Mae Whitman) and her friends must embark on an epic adventure to find Zarina, and together they go sword-to-sword against the band of pirates led by a cabin boy named James (voice of Tom Hiddleston), who’ll soon be known as Captain Hook himself. Enjoy the laughter, heart, magic and thrills of The Pirate Fairy.

What I really loved about this movie is that Zarina has a curiosity and spark to challenge what she is taught to just accept. And even though her curiosity is initially met with aversion she eventually gets to discover a new part of her world and she discovers much more than she had anticipated finding. The movie teaches children that exploring the world around them but also the importance of family and friends. I found this to be a very inspiring movie while also very entertaining and humorous.

I also loved that Tom Hiddleston (Loki) was the voice of the lead cabin boy James (AKA Captain Hook – he makes a wonderful Hook.)

THE PIRATE FAIRY is available on Blu-ray and DVD nationwide April 1.

I received passes to the featured event in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions stated are my own.
