Over the weekend Jude and I took a trip to our local Food Lion to check out the newest updates. Food Lion has been making some big changes in their stores and we had to check it out. I grew up shopping at Food Lion and have fond memories of shopping with my mom at our local store. However, over the years we’ve hopped around to different stores and it’s been awhile since I shopped in a Food Lion.
Food Lion provided me with a $150 gift card to do my shopping which is exactly how much we budget for our bi-weekly shopping trips (we shop for perishable weekly but do a big pantry stocking every two weeks). I try very hard to be conscious of how much I spend, and pay extra close attention to items that are on sale. My total is often pretty close or just over the $150 mark but at Food Lion I was able to get all of our regular purchase for less than $150 (plus a few fun extras!) I was thrilled.
To celebrate our great savings we made a delicious dinner of Jerk Chicken, Cuban Beans and Saffron Rice.
Here is Joe’s Slow Cooker Jerk Chicken Recipe:
Ingredients: 2 Chicken Breasts 1 Jar of World Harbors, Jamacian Style Jerk Sauce 1 Medium Diced Onion 1 Jar Pineapple Chunks
Directions: Place Chicken, Jamacian Jerk Sauce and Onion in Slow Cooker at cook on low for at least 6 hours. When there is 1 hour left add the pineapple. Serve over rice
What I like best about the store redesign is the Organic section. We try to buy many organic products and I was pleased to see that Food Lion has a pretty good section specifically for organic products. I was a little disappointed with the produce department. The strawberries we purchased were pretty much all bad when I got them home. But sometimes you just pick out a bad batch I guess. But overall, I was very pleased with out experience and we will certainly be going back, especially because they carry the brand of ginger-ale that Joe loves!

I like to think of myself as a fairly organized individual. I have a few well operating systems in place so our home runs smoothly. However, there are always areas that could use improvement especially as our family grows. With our recent move I found myself struggling to set up new organizational systems in certain…
I love my Harris Teeter. We shop there all the time. They have almost everything we could need, almost everything… until now. Starting in March 2012 Harris Teeter will now carry Kidfresh frozen meals. This is a great thing for us. Sometimes I have a hard time coming up with healthy and easy lunches for…
I always have a hard time buying gifts for babies. You’d think it would be easy since baby things are so cute but I think that is the problem, they are too cute and I cant decide. But I think babies can always use cute and comfy pajamas. Check out these cute Jammies in a…
One of the reasons Joe and I started dating was because of our mutual love for X-men. My older brother first introduced me to the wonderful world of Marvel X-Men when I was in elementary school. We spent endless summers in the arcade playing Marvel Super Heroes, X-men vs Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom….
With Jude I practiced on-demand breastfeeding which meant that anytime and anywhere I could possibly need to breastfeed. While I’m very confident in my right to breastfeed and never encountered any confrontation about when and where I could breastfeed I still tried to be respectful of others. I used a nursing cover most of the…
Last week we had a Hexbug party. Fifteen kids and their moms descended upon our house like a swarm of bugs, all in the name of fun… Hexbug fun. The party was a blast we played, we ate, held a raffle and everyone got to take home a free Hexbug. All the kids loved the…
