Cuban Picadillo

  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2/3 cup pimento stuffed green olives, sliced
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper


  1. Season potatoes with salt and pepper and pan fry in a small amout of olive oil until almost tender. Add a bit of water and cover to steam potatoes. Remove potatoes from pan and keep warm

  2. Add more oil to the pan and cook onion until tender

  3. Add ground beef to the onion and cook over medium-high heat until brown.

  4. Stir in onion powder, garlic powder, oregano, cumin and and black pepper

  5. Add olives and raisins. Stir to distribute

  6. Add tomato sauce and stir. Add addtional seasonings if needed.

  7. Add cooked potatoes back to the pan. Cover and cook for 5-10 minutes.

  8. Serve with white or yellow rice
