If you are interested in getting a cat and have allergies, I highly recommend a Cornish Rex. Friends of mine have recently purchased two and I have never met such friendly and engaging cats in all my life. I am also highly allergic to cat dander and have never had a problem in their home. The final test however was a sleepover, a bit trepidatiously I slept in the room where one of the cats slept and I had no problem at all. The only caveat: this breed of cat needs a lot of attention and shouldn't be alone for more than 4 hrs a day. If you travel you would need a house sitter to stay with your cat. The Cornish Rex is a wonderful and friendly breed.
